I just read my February 2003 Successful Farming and on page 60 there is a picture of Roger Welsch with a JD B? with the flywheel on the right side. I don't remember John Deere ever building a tractor with the flywheel so located. Any comments????

Ah, yes!! The dreaded left handed metric thread model. I understood that most of them were exported to markets for challenged operations training; usually Poland, Disney World, or somewhere around Crawford Texas.

Most of the Crawford machines have worn red at some time or another. The only greens that are old enough to sport flywheels have them on the correct side.

And then there is the ultra rare model 70 on my front collector license plate with left hand pulley, one of a kind I heard!

And let's not forget the 720 Diesel on the popular wind chimes - flywheel on both sides! At least they fixed that sort of error with the Model B wind chimes.

When I want to look at rare tractors I just but the slide in the projector backwards.

Jerry,

Fixed it -- just another Roger Welsch trick to drive up the prices of his old tractors. What's the name of that liars club he runs out there? Mine is the only genuine one now!

Jerry,

That's the second one. Here's another one! Mine and the one shown with Roger Welsch are the only two in existance -- and we're both asking BIG bucks! His royalty income has been way down, and mine is non-existant. So we both need to sell these very rare tractors.

-- removing tongue from cheek --

I made this one in my computer. The image is just flipped horizontally. In the pre-digital days an offset negative stripper had to work a bit to flip an image. Now with Photoshop and Quark Express, it's very easy.

So my guess is someone who laid out that page for Successful Farming made the same kind of mistake. If you need to have your flywheel and clucth flipped on your tractor, it's easy to do - amaze your friends, confound your enemies.

Take a look at the name on the tailgate of an extremely rare pick-up in the right (or is it left) background.
