i have a john deere 630 and the starter will not stay out long enough to catch the flywheel and start it.I have had the starter and generator rebuilt and it has not made it any better.anyone know what i should do.

kellen, if the starter drive is actually moving out when the starter is powered up there is a chance the flywheel has bad teeth in the area that it is stopped in [common problem on the old Deere's] -Try rolling the engine over so the flywheel is in a different position then re-try starting it.
~Another thing to look for is if the crankshaft has excess end play. [see how far the flywheel moves in & out when you push & pull on the clutch lever?]. The proper end play is .005"-.010" [that is a very small amount].
~If the above are good then the starter didn't get rebuilt correctly or the solenoid is installed incorrectly�.

We had our 630 starter rebuilt and after about a year it would sometimes go and sometimes it would do the EEEEE EEEE bit. Took it in thinking the starter drive was weak and a brand new drive did the same thing. The shop put back on the old starter drive and shimed the spring on the drive with washers and it has worked fine since. Poor quilty control at the factory?????
