I have not read the article myself, I am only going on what my brother has relayed to me. In a past issue of Green Magazine, an article about the model 80 stated something along the lines of there were only 290 80s built without power steering. Does anyone have any information on this?

As I stated previously, we are looking at an 80 and it turns out that it does not have power steering. I knew that the 80 was low production and semi-rare, but if I am hearing correctly, this one is 1 of less than 300.

If anyone can confirm this I would greatly appreciate it!

One quick seemingly insignificant question. Do you happen to know if it has the original hood on it and if it does, is there a plug in the rear right hand corner of the hood to allow for checking and addition of power steering fluid? I asked this a few weeks ago here and we weren't able to come up with any solid answers. I have a power steering 80 that has a different hood with out the above mentioned plug. I'm trying to determine if this is simply an R hood or if it is a hood off one of the 290 non-power steering 80's. I'm assuming it's an R hood but I wanted to double check. Thanks
Alan

Alan,

The hood on this non-ps 80 does have the hole in the hood. No plug, but the hole is there. I would assume that your hood is off an R, or maybe somebody switched your hood with this one! ha ha

Yup! I don't have access to the archvies or anything, but I have the same Green Magazine article. Only 290 without powersteering. I haven't compared parts books, but I'm pretty sure after looking at another non PS 80 that it is the exact same steering setup as a R. I do know that the non power steering tractors used bigger steering wheels with 4 spokes.

You found a somewhat rare tractor (I wouldn't know if it makes it more valuable in the collectors market or not). An added bonus is that there is less to go wrong with the manual steering than the powersteering!
