A friend of mine just gave me a 37 Model A! He got it from Arizona 8 years ago and it is lightly rusted but stuck. THe clutch lever and gear shift barely move. I'm going to pick it up next month and I had a few questions. I won't start restoring this tractor for another year and i was thinking of filling all of the cases (engine, trans, rear end) with diesel. My thinking is that this will help loosen everything up for when i start taking it apart. Anybody else have ideas that may be better?

Take out the spark plugs. Then you need some type of can with a valve on the bottom. Put fuel oil in the container. Put a T on the vavle with a hose to both spark plug holes. Turn the valve let the fuel oil put gravity pressure on the pistons. In a matter of a few months the engine will be free. I have done this several times it works like a charm freeing up a stuck 2cyl.

First make sure you have drained any water from the bottom of the crankcase, and differential. If you fill(!) it you may have fuel oil all over the place.

You won't be able to fill it up because it will run out in several places. I've tried it and I think it helps to protect it but you need to put it in slow to monitor when it will start to spill out. Good luck and have fun. I used some old oil instead of diesel. Rudy in Tx
