I was looking through my "JOHN DEERE DATA BOOK" at the G,60 and 520.It shows :
520 Draw bar HP at 34.31,weight 4960, Max. pull 4723lbs.
G Draw bar HP 34.49, weight 5624, Max. pull 4394 lbs.
60 Draw bar HP 36.90, weight 5911, Max. pull 4372 lbs. What I was wondering is if you hook to a sled and put each tractor in first gear and went to full rpm, and let them go until they spin out, is the 520 going to win. I would think the order of finish would be the 60, G then 520. Maybe I haven't been giving the 520 (a great tractor) enough respect. Just thought I would try a little different type question.

CLW, I have a '49G with .125 oversize pistons. I got beaten pretty badly by a gas 60 last year in a first-gear pull in the 6500 lb. class. I simply couldn't get traction. Unless I am in second gear on a grippy track, I don't have much of a chance to balance power, traction and speed. My point is that I don't think the G is as well-balanced as the 60 or the 20 series. I grew up on 730 diesels that we didn't have to weight even to plow. They are my benchmark. I would suspect the 520 would perhaps exhibit similar characteristics.

Great question!

Regards,
Rob

This pull would be made with stock tractors from the factory. All new with no added weight and no changes made to the tractors whatsoever.

I have seen a 50 JD beat G'Deere and M Far#$%^ on certain tracks where the G's are too light to get a good balance.A G with gas pistons and gas manifold will pull 6000 up to 7000 and even 7500 if the track conditions are right but it is traveling 2.5 mph.A 520,60,620(which in first is 1.5 mph)tryin to pull this heavy(STOCK)at 2.5 mph would be tough.

you must remember the 20 series had a 20 percent increase in power and in some cases weight. a 620gas in most cases could outpull a 70gas due to the higher rpm's and added weight, theres a few years difference in age in the G,60 and 520. i have a 52' "G" and a 57' 620 and the 620 when parked next to the G is massive. B-50-520-530...A-60-620-630...G-70-720-730...R-80-820-830...this is the long green line!!! but the most important thing is weight! in my nebraska test results book always look at the added weight somtimes they added 2000lbs or more to the tractors.

I belong to a club that sponsers a dead weight
sled pull. Last year I pulled my stock 60lp,a
friend pulled his stock G,both tractors were
close to same weight,6000 lbs. we both pulled
10800. when we tried 11400. he ran out of power
at a distance of 21 ft, i lost traction at 22 ft.
the 60 is geared lower in first .
