Just got a styled AR home. It had no batterys. I need to make sure of battery hookup. Is this correct.
Sitting in the driver seat.
Battery on the left should be NEG to starter and positive to NEG on the battery on the right side. Then positive to ground on the right hand battery.
Is this correct.

Dave, that sounds correct. I don't have an AR here at this time but most 2-cylinder Deere's ground on the R/H side of the battery box with the R/H battery's [positive] post hooking to ground & the L/H battery's [negative] post hooking to the starter with the L/H battery [positive] post hooking to the R/H battery [negative] post.

~While this isn't original, I have found that hooking the ground cable directly to the rear housing inside the battery box [rather than to the battery box] greatly improves the starter performance due to not having to pass current through any battery box to rear housing corrosion.....

Dave, it came from the factory as POSITIVE ground. If you want it wired back that way as a dual battery 12 volt pos. grnd system, YES the 2 six volters are connected in series with the neg of one going down to the starter and the positive of the other to frame ground. I recommend 0 Gauge starter and ground and tie cables. The coil (if it has one not a mag?) should be wired - to the ignition and + to the distributor. If its been changed in its life to neg grnd and any ammeter reads backwards, simply reverse its leads. Once you hook it all up, you may need to polarize the generator, and you're off to the races. With two new good heavy rated rated sixes in series, she ought to crank over quite well. Good luck, Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

That will give you 12 volts and positive ground I am not sure what the original voltage was on an AR I guess you could look at the generator and regulator to see if they are 12 volt

It is to be a 12 volt system. It must be right then.
