The crankshaft journals are 0.0015 thousands under the min. The rear is the worst and needs to be polished which will remove at least another 0.001. I know it's under the limit, but with new bushings can I squeek by, if not what to do.
Thanks

Thanks Clooney,
I just put new main bushings in. I put the crank in the lathe and cleaned up the rear main. Ended up with about 2 thousandths under with new bushing. I'ts gonna get bigger with time, but as John T said use some good oil with a little extra goose grease added might live a long time. I keep it in the shop and it's 60 degrese so a real cold start I don't have to deal with.
Thanks again John T & papafoutz, probly be back with more questions, got alot more to do on the ol girl.

Hoby, I don't think Deere has undersized bushings. There are no rod inserts used in those aluminum rods but that doesn't seem to be your problem. I used standard bushings in one a few years ago on a mildly worn crank & it has a fair amount of time on it with no problems.
~You can probably live with the extra clearance but you might try calling Albert at Renaissance Tractor [1-800-784-0026] to see if he has a source for undersized bushings...

Hoby, No one else is touching this so far it looks like lol and as you probably already know, there's the CORRECT answer to this (rebuild the crank at great expense if you dont want to use or cant get non stock rods or inserts) and I sure wont be the first to stick my neck out lol and say awwwww w go ahead LIKE IT IS, IT WILL BE JUST FINE. However, I will say what I would consier and do if the crank wasnt gonna be rebuilt or replaced.

1. Are there any available rod bearing inserts slight oversized or have you looked into the custom manufacture of rods and/or inserts to match the undersized crank throws????? ? Of course, if you tried to remove some material off the rod cap and ends, then you lose some concentricity.

2. If you cant buy or have built rods and inserts to match the crank and are gonna stick her back together anyway, I would use 15W40 Oil plus that Lucas type Oil Additive that supposedly makes the oil cling better to the surfaces to avoid oil starvation at start up and let her warm up as slow and long as possible before loadign her down.

3. Have you shopped for another crank???

Let us know what approach you take. Good Luck, Ol John T

I had a crank that was going to need to be turn down, but found out you can't. Because the rods don't have inserts. What I did was,I took it to a crank shop and had them to splatter chrome it or something like that. Then it can be turned down.It was $450.00 to do it:(
