Thanks to the above the old Case DO turned over twice and fired up and is running better than Ever.

Plugs and wires replaced. Mag points cleaned and gapped. condenser connections and mounting bracket cleaned. Cap terminals cleaned. Dont know if this had any effect but there is a little carbon post on top of the rotor that appeared worn enough that it wasnt making good contact. I shimmed it up from the bottom and gained about a 32nd.

Turned out there was nothing wrong with the impulse, just didnt know how it worked.

In the future I wont have any fear on getting into a Mag after the responses and help I got. I have been at auctions where you could get a pail full of old Mags for 10 bucks. A good share of them prbably could be restored with relatively minor maintenance.

Thanks again Guys.

Congratulations Don, We try and cover as much as possible to help on this board to cover so many possibilities, but so often on mags a simple clean up and re gapping of the points makes them fire again. If they are only gray coat oxidized, a clean up works, but if they are badly pitted or burned and you have to file to clean them, once that silver coat is gone they wont last long. John T

Donwisc, glad you're up & running. If you need any more to practice on I have a bucket full of mags in the shop that need attention....
