Where do I find parts that are cheaper than going to John Deere for going through my B SN 3669. It has been rubuilt before, but sat too long and siezed. I beilieve it was bored and sleeved by my grandfather the original owner in the early 80's. I'm going to take it to my ag power class this coming semester. I don't want to bend over any farther on the cost than I have to. I'm still in high school and working part time. Thanks for the help.

Stay with Gen. John Deere Parts when you can. Dont go for cheap stuff or you will be a sad Boy down the road. Remember, it was John Deere when it left the plant in 35, if it wasn't for John Deere Quality then it would'nt be around today!

John: I have noticed also that John Deere isn't always higher priced than parts stores. In fact on the bearings I have purchased they were cheaper than NAPA or other suppliers. I have also noticed the John Deere gaskets fit better also. I talk from experience after having to take the head back off my 1939 "B". There is a difference in quality. If I can get the part from Deere, that is where I will buy it.

John, if you have access to either Green Magazine or Two Cylinder Magazine or go to their web sites and parts links, you will find many after market parts suppliers. However, those hard pure engine parts and gaskets etc. may have to come from JD. A parts book is sure a good investment which doesnt cost a lot and will help a bunch. I try and replace all gaskets and they are usually available from JD. Take your time and do it right when in there, or else after you get it painted pretty, problems will rear their ugly head and you will be doubling the time for another tear down. This isnt an easy or quick or cheap undertaking, but I sure admire young guys who do it and we on this board will help as much as possible. Don't count out Deere. Was rebuilding the trans on my A. There was an outer race that I could only find at Deere and a bearing house. Deere was like $32.00 The bearing house wanted over $50.00 But most of the other bearings from Deere where only penny's to a buck or two higher. Saved gas just by getting them at Deere. Do some shopping around. But Deere may surprise you.

I have seen rings for Deere's advertised for over $100 My B's rings were $45.00, my A was $65.00, and my G's was $95.00 All from Deere

So give Mother Deere a chance.

John, Deere parts are getting kind of pricey everywhere. About all you can do is call around for each part needed & get a quote. For some reason the same place will be high on one part & quite reasonable on others..
