Charles, there isn't much in there to lock-up, so if the pony trans is actually locking-up maybe it's something like Randy T. had happen to his.

I've got to know how you always have pictures of what ever someone is working on? Did you photograph all your past projects or do you take something apart in your collection just to provide the images? It's appreciated anyways, as they say "a picture is worth a thousand words".

Thank you all.The problem was that the bearings in the clutch shaft came apart.A ball found its way bewteen the gears and locked it up.I have to get new parts now.Might have to find a shaft.A few of the teeth are bad. Thanks again

Charles, It sounds like your pony transmission is locked up. I have mine apart now putting new bearings and seals in it. A bearing disintegrated and a ball was caught in the gears. Split the unit after the bell housing. This is the "transmission". It is just 2 shafts, gears and bearings. Lack of lubrication is what killed mine also. All bearings and seals are available from JD dealer.

Charles:

If you're talking about the over running clutch in the pony transmission, I just finished going through mine, and can tell you that the springs, rollers, and followers are available, but the gear and the star hub are not.

On mine I had what I thought was a slipping clutch, because it would motor the diesel just fine, but then slip as I went to full compression.

The tying up doesn't sound like the O/R clutch though. If the O/R clutch doesn't work properly, it will slip, that is not stay in engagement.

Have you tried turning the transmission over with a screwdriver to determine if the transmission itself is just tied up ? Sure doesn't sound like the o/r clutch to me.

If the pony won't turn the diesel on decompression, then like was said, you have a tied up pony gearbox or the diesel is stuck.

It is the bendix area for the main engine. The clutch is good.As soon as you engage it,The pony stalls out.Just before this happened there was a grinding noise in that area.

Charles....is the cylinder decompression rod hooked up and adjusted properly? Maybe the pony engine is trying to turn the "cold" diesel engine under full compression. The decompression lever and the clutch engagememt lever need to be pulled way back with the pony engine on high rpm.

The decompression lever is hooked up and working.Seems like the drive is seized up.I took the main flywheel off and pony starts and runs great.Engage it and the pony stalls out.Going to pull housing apart and hope I can get whatever is inside freed up or get parts.

Charles, I am not sure what your complaint is. Try to explain it in detail. If the pony engages the main engine & stalls, the pony is either weak or the main engine is stuck. If it engages & stalls the pony pinion is properly engaging the diesel flywheel...

Charles, what bendix are you looking for? The electric starting motor on the pony or the pinion gear for the pony to drive the diesel? If the pony isn't spinning the diesel are you sure it isn't the over-running clutch slipping in the pony trans?
~You can put a row crop front end on but it might sit a little high in the front [depends on the front & rear tire size]
