she seems to be spewing oil from the drive pulley when running leaves a trail and the pulley itself has a fine coat where the brake pad groove is. The oil has a gasoline smell to it in the reservoir and seems to have some bubbles in it. I got her running and she will run for about 5 minutes then will stall out. To restart she needs to have the fuel shut off then turned over at no throttle. Then I open her up to full throttle til she fires then let in the fuel. Sorry so long but all went bad today at the same time. She sat for a long time without running (1-2 years)

Check oil level to full it will leak out the pulley. It could have filled up with the gas going through the carb and past the rings.Change the oil and filter.

Don, maybe the oil has thinned out by the accidental addition of gasoline causing more leaks. Do you turn off the gas when you shut down?? (You should) and are you sure the carbs needle valve and seat is closing properly?? (If not it floods and gas gets into the oil) A leaky carb float can cause excess fuel to get into the oil, not rise and shut off the needle valve and flood out the engine. I suggest you drain the oil and change it and the filter and then check to see if the carbs bowl is overfilling due to a leaky needle valve and go from there before worrying about the leak. If she runs and doesnt stall out, kill the engine by shuttign off the fuel at the gas tanks sediment bowl and let her run out of fuel. That long period of sitting can cause gum and varnish and carbon to wreack havoc on the carb and float and needle valve/seat plus dry out oil seals. I suggest you also drain the old stale fuel (may have water in it also) and refill and change the oil per above then see what happens and post back and we will try and help you more. Take a look at the air cleaners bowl for water and clean and service it also. Ol John T Nordhoff

she was drained of fuel, i kill the fuel at the bowl, but i have a hole in the exhaust manifold and when she stalls after 5 minutes, when turning over with the fuel closed there is alot of fuel being pushed through the hole in the manifold by the compression. she runs and plows but having to go thru alot to restart 4-5 times during plowing is tough. there has never been any work done to the engine or carb i found out and the gaskets are 54 years old this year so there should be some leaking.
