I am putting a flathead on my 51 John Deere G. I have to have the pushrods shortened since the head is so much thinner. Do any of you know around how much they should be shortened? I was thinking about subtracting the difference between the old head and the flathead, and having them shortened that much. Wouldn't that work? Thanks for any help.

Brandon

Hi Brandon when I built my puller I had to configure some pushrods, the first set I bent them. The second set I put #1 exh.just starting to open backed off just a tad,put pushrod in place, installed rocker arms and took a hacksaw and shortened push rod as needed(note rocker arm should be in the vertical position)when you get done trimming pushrod mig a ball bearing on the end and your in business. This may seem crude but it works. Some of the other guys on the board may have a better idea.Gman

Yes that will work I took mine to a machine shop and had them turned down.I have also seen them cut and welded back together. When you get readed for your starter let me know about 2 weeks ahead of time and I'll order it.
