Been looking for a good 3020 diesel, I haven't found one that I'm happy with yet. I found a '75 4030 w/quad and 18/34 rubber, new paint'6200 hrs for $10500. I talked to a previous owner by phone, he said the tractor was good but it had been OH twiced due to the injectors failing and washing down the cylinder. Is this a common problem with these tractors? Are 4030's good tractors? Where they made in Waterloo? Are they hard to start when its cold? How do they compare to a 3020? All input is welcomed. Thanks

I've used 3020's but own a 4030. They are both good tactors, just the 4030 is a little newer and 10 to 15 more HP.
The only problem I have with the fuel system has been jelling when it's cold, make sure when it's -30 below out you got #1 in it.

I don't have a lot of experience but I ran a 4630 in the early 1970's when I was a hired hand. Their 4020 was a lot better tractor. You should be able to find a real nice 3020/ overhauled/ for 10000. if you want the automatic transmission---the 4020 powershift would be my choice. I have a real nice 3020 diesel synchro-range transmission/ I bought last summer with 4600 hours for 8500. A lot of guys will tell you the 20 series tractors were the best ever built...I'm one of that bunch.

The 4030 was made in Waterloo, the 329 engine in it was made in Dubuque.

HA in Oh The 4030 has the 329 engine 6 cylinder engine' plus opitional quad range 16speeds versis 3020 4cylinder 8speed ps or syncro also around 10 less hp than 4030.From past experince I would rather have a late model 3020 if 73hp is enough also a nice 3020 console will probley cost more than a 4030 with out cab. good luck Terry Clubb
