I tore down my 70 diesel to repair a problem with it jumping out of gear and found that the cluster gear was worn also. When I slid the countershaft out the right side of the tractor the roller bearings that carry the idler gear fell apart. The bearings number jd8600 are no longer available and my local dealer has been unable to find any of these. I contacted the local bearing supplier today and they have no cross reference to the number on the bearing or the deere number. Does anyone have any idea where I should be looking to find this bearing? What I have found on the parts cd indicates that these bearings are in all 70's but no other model of tractor. Will I have to settle for used bearings?

I would say those would have to be obtained used....there should be some parts tractors around..if you could find one fire damaged, you may get a transmission with lower hours...
