What forage harvester model would have been produced for the late letter series and early 2 digits? Is there anyone out here that collects, restores or uses 50's vintage silo filling equipment?

From a brochure dated March 1956 - the No. 50 Forage Blower (silo filler) is shown being powered by a late styled B with an MT pulling a load of silage up to it.

From a brochure dated January 1954 - the No. 8 Forage Harvester is shown being powered by a 60. The row-crop attachment is a one-row unit. Also refers to the No. 50 Forage Blower as "matching equipment".

From a brochure dated December 1955 - the No. 10 Rotary Chopper is shown powered by a 60.

A "Mechanical Pasturing" brochure dated January 1958 (20 series tractors) refers to the No. 15 Rotary Chopper, the No. 55 Forage Blower, 110 Chuck Wagon, a Self-Unloading Forage Box Attachment for Model "R" PTO Spreader, and still refers to the good ol' No. 8 Forage Harvester.

I hope this helps a little.

Stan

Last fall I bought a #6 John Deere silage cutter, it had been purchased by a friend of mine, parked and never used by him. I brought it home and cleaned and washed it, and was amazed to discover it looked like brand new--no kidding!! Apparently, his old neighbor had bought it new and used it each year to cut his own feed and that was the extent of its use. I've got it all cleaned up, greased and ready to cut silage with next summer. I'm not really sure was the year of manufacture was. Its a one row, I've seen a #12--which was the 2 row version. If I ever can find one, I'd like to have the pickup attachment for chopping something like alfalfa. I'll tell you one thing for sure, you can sure see the quality that JD built into their equipment in those days--compared to some others I've looked at. I've got a '42 M Farmall I'm planning on pulling it with and a JD Chuckwagon to blow the feed it. I can't wait to get in the corn field with it!!

Do you have the ability to send a picture of your unit? What is the availability of these old harvesters? I haven't seen any for sale or written about in here. GOOD luck next fall!!
