Getting a JD 1020 to move?

I recently came across a 1968 JD 1020 (JD300) that has a strong dsl engine but I'm having trouble getting it to move. I has a collar shift with reverse trans and will move in low 1st or 2nd slowly and intermittently. Not a lot of power, infact I had a difficult time motoring it up a slight ramp. It is like the trans is not fully engaging or the clutch is "half" in. I know nothing about this type of tractor and it could be that I'm not pressing the right buttons! Any suggestions?

Do you have a high low shifther or direction reverser on the dash? That works on hyd presure. There is a lot of thing there from orings oil lines to pump change trans oil and filter.

Gordon-it has two gear shifters in the center, one is high/low/park and the other is gears 1-6. In addition, it has the fwd/rev lever next to the steering wheel.

the first part of the clutch pedal movement operates a valve in the reverser housing.if the movement of the valve is restricted you can get a partial engagement. check pedal travel and especially the pin between the holow shaft rotated by the clutch pedal and the valve shaft at the reverser housing. also make sure the heavy spring is ok at the pedal.

I am in no means a professional mechanic and will never claim to be. I personally dont' think we ever know it all but, from what you say its doing it sounds like the clutch is all but gone away for the winter. It also could be oil soaked as well. You would get enough grip to move it in the lower gears but the higher gears that require more rpms are not getting that. It shouldn't be to bad of a job putting a clutch in that size tractor. I'm just concerned about putting one in my 64 model 3020 here one of these days, the 4020 is ok thank goodness.
