I got a 1949 B that Im working on restoring and it needs to have the engine rebuilt. I was wondering if anyone could tell where to start tearing it down and what I need to do?

I would suggest getting an IT manual (at tractor supply) for your B. That way you know if your clearances are within spec. The head block and piston stuff is quite straight forward, but crank shaft bearings are a little more in depth. Its hard to say where to start restoring without knowing how your tractor was performing before the tear down. If you find you need parts after disassembly let me know I may be able to help with a few things as well as a cylinder head. Good luck.

Bill,

What are your expectations for your restoration and your experience level? You need to at least get the head and pistons removed for further evaluation.

Take pictures as you go if you are a little shaky and keep your parts orgainzed in groups for easier assembly. Let us know if you need specific help. See a picture of my 49 B in JD photo section.

Happy restoring!
