Steve, I've heard that the modern radiator cores are not the same as the old...weight, number of tubes, construction, etc. Some people look at a core and know that it is original or new/old stock...is that true and what is the difference? easy

That may be the case. I can't guarantee that the new core will be exactly the same as an original. I do know that they are the industrial type with more tubes and fins than the lighter duty automotive types. Due to the age of these old tractors, the lack of availability of new OEM parts, and the increased scarcity of good used parts, sooner or later restorers like yourself are going to have to either breakdown and buy aftermarket or start restoring a bit newer equipment. Those old parts can only be salvaged just so many times.
