I am new to John Deere and I really don't know much about them. I was wondering what kind of power you can get out of a 730 gas. Is their a power block for a 730 or a power block that will work in a 730? What is the max bore you can have in a 730? Where would be a good place to get a few high performance parts for a 730? Any other tips or info would be appreciated. Thanks

John,
I was interested in the same type of information you are, but mine is a 70 gas. I had a cam shaft ground for stock RPM but with more lift (Berry Cam Service 320-395-2377, Minnesota, $140). I ported the head and intake manifold myself as well as mill the exhaust manifold. I added a dry element air filter. The head and block had 1/8" each taken off for compression reasons. I ended up with 67hp on pump gas, stock size valves .450 over gas pistons(used), and stock stroke. I still want to bore out the carb, add electronic ignition, and change the rocker arm geometry. realisticly I should be able to get 77 hp from this combonation. I started with 47 hp. My phone # 507-787-2345 at work. Don't spend big money on the power block and stroke when the breathing improvements alone make a big difference and cost alot less.

The tractor is about 55 hp. The trans can make a big diffrence there is a standard and one with a special 5 gear. On the standard 1st rev 3rd are on top. That has the creeper gear.It is not hard to change the special 5 back to standard it is all on the outside of tractor.
