My friend just bought a 70 LP. Nice barn tractor that has been run in a couple of years. Here's the bad part, the flywheel is welded the the crankshaft and it has a little too much end play. Not knowing for sure what we will find under the welds but expecting the worst can the slines be repaired and will a gasoline crankshaft work in this tractor. He wants to leave it on LP. What is involved in checking the regulator and carb on an LP that has been sitting for 2-3 years. I have very little experience with LP tractors and do not want to take the hard knocks course in flammable LP gas. Thaks for any advice.

Snowmantn, you will probably find the crank splines & flywheel torn up when you cut those welds loose. If the end play isn't real excessive why not just leave it until you have to remove it.
~The gasoline crank is different than the LP crank due to the LP crank being a little stronger. The service crank for both the gas & LP was the stronger LP crank. If you aren't going to work that LP tractor real hard, the gasoline crank will hold up good.
~I don't know what to tell you on the carb & regulator. Probably check the carb for rust & plugged passages & check the regulator & fuel lines for leaks. If something doesn't work correctly or leaks then it will have to be repaired as it becomes a problem...

Thanks Clooney, we had to get the starter rebuilt and reinstalled today. Now we found we have a small firing problem to fix tomorrow. Are the LP carbs similar to a gas carb as far as inspecting and cleaning? Thanks again.

Sorry I meant that 70LP has NOT run in 2-3 years. Thanks.
