I AM TRYING TO TAKE THE HOOD OFF MY 50 TO STRAIGHTEN SOME DENTS. DOES THE GAS TANK HAVE TO COME WITH THE HOOD?

You can take the fuel tank off the hood and leave it in place when you remove the hood, but it is a tough job getting it back together. It is much easier to take the fuel tank with the hood during removal, and then reassemble with the hood upside down on a padded surface. Alignment of the fuel tank to the hood and brackets is a real tough job with the tank mounted on the tractor.

When I removed the hood on my 50 I took the gas tank off with it. I seem to recall that the tank is bolted in place on a pair of flanges which are part of the hood. You should be able to unbolt the tank once the hood/tank assy is removed from the tractor.

You will find it easier to remove the hood if you drain the gas out of the tank first.

Good Luck,
John
