A guy recently emailed me about a tractor that I listed about 8 months ago in the classified section on this site. I let him know that I no longer had that tractor but that I did have another that I would like to sell. Anyway, to make a long story short, the guy (in another country) wanted me to accept a cashier's check (from someone else in the U.S.) for four times the amount of the sale price. Then, he wanted me to wire the difference to him within 24 hours so he could arrange "shipping". Well, we bankers don't take kindly to ripoff artists. A cashier's check can be faked just like any other check. Payment can also be stopped on a cashier's check. So, if I wired the difference to him within 24 hrs --- I'm up a creek because I'm holding a (probably) dead check! The guy went by the name of George Anderson. His email is [email protected] I told this guy how I would accept payment, (the EXACT sale amount wired directly into my account) and I haven't heard back from him. I just thought that I would let everyone know about it. Bryan

George, the idiot with your namesake is from Australia or S. Africa (somewhere far from us). I posted his email address. As long as you're not that guy, you're OK with me, brother!

That's been going on for quite a while now,on the
news the other night a young couple fell for this scam on a used car they had for sale. They
recieved a cashiers check for $7000 more than
the car price, and actually sent the money to
someone in africa.I get emails every night from
someone wanting to transfer 50 million into my
checking account, and just need my account number.
It's usually a Prince,or King of some country
no one ever heard of.

There is always a few bum buyers around. 25 years ago a guy from upstate NY wanted to buy 5 antique tractors from me, we struck a deal and I never received payment or heard from him for 2 years. He called one day and wanted to come pick up his tractors. Apparently he thought I should just hold them until he got around to paying for them or picking them up. He was mad at me for a year for now holding on to "his tractors" after 2 years and tons of letters and emails to him that he never answered.

NO there weren't any e-mails exchanged between me and the buyer. I mis-spoke, obviously! However, the remainder of the story is as represented. Being one to whom integrity and sagacity is all important, I certainly did not mean to mis-lead anyone. Good job catching the mistake, though. When one arrives at my age and mileage the convolutions of the brain have a tendency to clog up. It's one more gift of the "golden years." However, I thank God that I am able to enjoy them as much as I do.
