Clooney....I put the "Demon 70D" back together this weekend with the two new RH main bearing seals and new gaskets on the main bearing housing, reduction cover and pulley flange. I ran it for about two hours and it didn't lose any crankcase oil to the transmission housing. So far so good. I also replaced a broken clutch friction ring behind the main clutch disc driver and a leaking seal on the decompression shaft. Just waiting for the next problem to surface now. Later.

Clooney...You're probably right, it will be a "prized tractor". It wins the prize for the most labor hours required to get it to a "stable" (thanks Frank for the appropriate term) condition.

You never really "fix" a '70'D...

You just try to keep it stable.....

Well put Frank. If you ever get a chance to look at a set of dealer service bulletins from the 70D era there are a lot of them dealing with the 70D. I bet some mechanics back then kringed every time one of them came in the door.

Our 70D has eaten more than it's share of parts in it's lifetime too. Did a pile of work in over 10,000hrs as well. By the time the blackdash 720's came out that series was reliable.

G Taylor...I agree. I have a black dash 720D in addition to the 70 diesels and it has a better pony engine, better pony clutch engagement, better power steering, better hydraulics, better brakes, better seat and more power. Although I do like the hi/lo range transmission of the 70D and the fast 5th gear.
