I was wondering how everyone else fills up their tractor tanks. I am debating if I should go through the hassle of making a gasoline rack to make topping off the tank easier. Currently I just run back and forth to the Shell station in town with my 5 gallon can. I plan on working my 50 more this comming spring and summer so having a small storage tank might be usefull. If anyone has any suggestions, those would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day.

when i worked for exxon we carried safety cans in utility beds, had electrican flip a butt out the window and hit headache rack and right in bed, it was full if leaves and pine straw.needless to say he had fire with gasoline in truck, had his boss right behind him trying to pull him over without getting on radio and putting it all over the air..he finally got on radio and said pull over..they got it out but is gas can had been leaking wow ...since that time i had utility beds installed with electric fuel pumps in box..sure was safer, the last one had one in tank all i had to do was crank truck and just crack valve about half way,,truck kept running and filled up what was needed...have nice day may god bless

Tye:

Years ago we drove a number of VW diesels, and even a Tempo Diesel. When I got my 855, I didn't enjoy hauling diesel fuel all that much, so I plumbed a tap just after the primary fuel filter on the Tempo. With ignition on, the in-tank fuel transfer pump filled the 855 at a fair rate. Even if was slow, it was faster than driving into town. Not sure how hard that is on the pump, but it was still pumping when the car was retired at 218,000 miles.

Maybe an electric fuel pump on your pick up truck would be an alternative ?

If you can find a way to prevent "people" from stealing gas, please let me know. Back years ago when I had a gas dozer I put a valve in the tank of my pickup that I could drain gas for the dozer. That way it was always fresh, clean and accounted for.

your're right about the gas in trunk, guess if you get hit there wouldn't be much difference in 5 gallons and 15 gallons, they use a quart to blow up tanks, molitof style..I use the safety cans to eliminate fumes in buildings, etc. Probably gas safety is one of the most ignored matters with these tractors....you can loose a whole tractor...or yourself...

Over the years have managed to pickup about 5/6 of the eagle brand ventless safety cans. I make a run periodically for diesel and gasoline. The only draw back is thoughts of cans in trunk...you know what I mean. Used to have a 70 Chev. PU and would siphon from it. Don't like the ideal of outside storage/theft/water/you know the pitfalls of that....

There is a legal limit to how many of those 5 gal. cans you can carry. I think its 3 but I'm not positive on that. Consider how big of a bomb you want on the back of your truck.
