did any other JD use the 531 cu.in. engine that the 5010 did?I've heard a combine used it but havent had time to check on this.I've found several 5010's and 5020's that had the same problem, that being a broken crank or spun main bearings. Is the crank the "weak link" in the 531 engines or have I found the "choosen few" bad cranks? Any info. would be appreicated. Thanks, David

No combines ever used the 6-531 however the 6030s and 7520s did. We have two 6030s that put out around 230-240hp each and weve never had any crank or bearing problems with them however one of them sucked a valve about 15 years ago which led to a rebuild and the turbos have been replaced on both units.

Many other Deere machines used the 6-531 engine, but no combines. The 6-619 is basically an improved, increased displacement, version of the 6-531. Some would argue if the early 6-619s were really an improvement!
