There is a fuse wire burned off from the battery cable that hooks the 2 batterys in sieres. The fuse wire goes from the battery terminal to ground it is usually on the clutch side battery. If you try your headlights, two of them will be out also.

Among the suggestions the others tell you.... be sure the gauge has a good ground to the dash and the dash has a good ground to the rest of the tractor. The gauge will not work correctly otherwise.
Also if you or anyone else needs a new float for your sending unit you can get it from your FORD Car dealer. I don't have the part number handy. Only way to get the float from Deere is to buy the whole sending unit ($$$$$$$).

Rod, I dont have a diagram or I would send it to you and that tractor has more than 2 cylinders right??? lol. However, an inoperative fuel gauge may be the tank sender or gauge or both. Its often just the sender in the tank. If you get to the sending unit and ground the wire going to it, the gauge should deflect (it (gauge) needs voltage going to it, be sure thats present on its other terminal that doesnt go to the sender) What the tank sender does is provide a variable slide wire resiatance to ground, which provides a ground to the gauge which then deflects, if it has voltage on its other side and is working (ie gauge has continuity, NOT an open circuit).

The inoperative oil light may be just a burned out bulb (check it first), or the sender or both, but that shouldnt require any diagram to troubleshoot.

Its my belief if you understand the theory of how these darn thigns work (thats why I answer as I did), you can troubleshoot them without any diagram, so Good Luck and let us know what the prob was. PS is that a dual battery 24 volt start system??, if so, be careful cuz they r complicated. Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

Rod S,

I strongly recommend that you get the JD service manual for your 3010. It has the wiring diagrams for the tractor, plus tons of other service information that will help you work on the tractor. I know they are a little spendy, but it will be money well spent. You can order it directly from JD Technical Publications at 1-800-522-7448.

I had the same problems you mentioned on my 3010. The light bulb for the oil pressure light was burnt out, and both my fuel gauge and sending unit were bad. Replaced all items, and now they work great.

I really love my 3010, been a great tractor to do my haying!

If you need the wiring diagram quickly, I can send you a copy of the pages from my service manual.

Good luck,

MG3010
