Clutch brake adjustment

After reading some of the posts here I decided that the clutch brake on the 60 was way out of adjustment since it would over toggle ocasionally and the tractor wanted to keep going with the clutch out. So I got the trusty manual out which said to adjust with the clutch in and the brake pushed against the pulley and set it for 1/16" to 1/8" gap between the set screw and the pin (BTW this is an early 60 with the headless pin). Took her out today and it doesn't seem as though the clutch is releasing completly. So I took my best guess (with a bit of trial and error) and now it seems to be OK but I have got about a 5/16" gap between the screen and the pin. So this leaves me two questions. First, is this a possible setting? and Secondly, is it possible that something in the clutch assembly is not moving freely which is causing the extra distance to make it release? and if so what would I be looking for? (Sorry three questions) This is one of those things that the book just doesn't seem cover.

BTW, I really have appreciated all knowledge here, I have learned so much by just reading what is posted it is a great resource. I am new to the Waterloo tractors and Dad hasn't owned one in over 40 years and his memory isn't always all that great, however, working on this with him is a memory I hope I'll never forget. What a great hobby!

Clutch brake adjustment is somewhat "subjective"..

If you work these a lot, and slip gears, you want it set a lot looser than the book says.. BUT--the "Over-travel" you mentioned should be adjusted out--and you did..!!

if it works good now it should be ok but if you lose adjustment again you might need to look at the clutch fork behind the pulley it might be wore out where the pin hits it. my 70 was like that so I took the fork out and welded it back up and havent had a problem with it.
