Happy new year. A few questions to all john deere experts . I bought a 4010 John Deere standard . The head light are mounted on the fenders and the fenders are rounded. Just how many of these tractors were made ? All the lights don't work except the oil light and one head light. The bulbs look ok, any other posibility's. Also it does not have a 3pt. hitch. Are any add on's available and were can I find one ?

Richard

Do you hav the rock shaft? Do you have a swinging drawbar if you do that has to be changed. Is your tractor gas or diesel? The wireing is simpler on gas.

The wiring on those tractors can be a bit of a nightmare, so one you're lighting question, check the bulbs first. It's pretty hard to tell if a sealed-beam headlight is burned out or not just by looking at it. Pull the bulbs out of the rubber rings that retain them and check them that way. Check for power to the headlamps and if there is power there, check the terminals for corrosion. You can also use your test light to check for continuity through the bulbs if you have power to them. More often than not, you'll find bad bulbs. If that doesn't catch it, I would suggest getting your hands on a wiring diagram. The wiring runs behind the panel the switch is in, down under the platform and then out to the fenders along the tops of the final-drive housings. You could have unhooked connections, broken wires or bad terminals anywhere between the switch and the actual lights, so it might take some detective work. If the harnesses are completely fried, new ones are available at your Deere dealer, along with the light switch, breakers, bulbs and anything else you'll need to fix it.
