When did John Deere change from the steel steering wheel on a D to the plastic coated steering wheel? It seems like the old pictures always show the D with the all steel steering wheel.

The steering wheels changed from the steel to the rubber covered type at #109944, for the 1931 model year.

I like the steel steering wheels-they usually had a built in knuckle buster!

I am pretty sure the steering wheel was changed in 1935. I know for a fact 1931-1933 still had a steel steering wheel. Paul

You're right! That's what I get for being in a hurry. The 45R parts book lists the rubber steering wheel going back to #109944, but it must just have been a "substitute" for the earlier tractors. After pulling out a reference book, the rubber wheels came out at #120316, during 1935!

Sorry about that!
