Alan, John T is right. You should be able to rent, borrow, or buy a hone. As for the ridge, automotive ridge reamers usually won't expand big enough for the 5 1/2" bore. The easiest way I have found to ridge ream a Deere block is with a small rotary hand grinder, like a Drimmel tool and a stone or small sanding drum. Just don't get carried away. Go easy with it.

If you don't want to try honing the block yourself, surely there is more than one shop in your area that can hone the block for you. It doesn't have to be a machine shop. Some places to try--The local Deere dealership, auto parts store, vocational school, 2 cyl club, shade tree mechanics. Good luck.

Alan, before I would wait any longer, why dont you got to a rent all store and rent a hone and do it yourself if honing is all it needs. Be sure and keep the stones well oiled and use a good even steady in and out motion until the walls are a nice even gritty texture, and the more even in and out motion you can use, you might even achieve that pretty cross hatch or checkerboard pattern. Are there any grooves at the top of the cylinders?? If so and they are bad enough, you might even rent a ridge cutter to get them the same diameter as the rest of the cylinder prior to honing. There are, of course, specs on the amount of cylinder wall taper that is acceptable, but I sure dont have them. Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

There is a very small ring but you cant hardly catch it with your finger nail so I think it will hone out ok never thought about a rental place but will they have a hone that large? I will check tommorow Thanks
