Have you ever worked on an Edison-Splitdorf type RM magneto? I have one for my Model L, which works well except for the impulse coupling. The impulse coupling will only engage when the engine is cranked very slowly. I have disassembled and cleaned the coupling and cannot see any wear on the coupling pawls. I have notice that the coupling will always engage without the drive gear/cup attached. Also, inside the drive cup there are wear marks between the pawl trip points as if the pawls have been riding against the drive cup. There is some wear on the pawl stop of about .005, could this be the problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Best to you and yours for the New Year!

Mark, not sure I can help you on the RM. I have worked on the E./S. C-D's but can't remember doing much with the R-M. If I remember correctly that's the one with the drive gear & cup as one assembly. Usually when the mag acts like yours & impulses better off the tractor than on it, adding a 2nd or thicker mounting gasket will help, but don't think that it will in your case due to that drive gear. You might try E-Mailing [email protected] as they are the [L] experts. Or calling Bill Lopoulos [978-649-7879] not sure if he is working on the Edison/Splitdorf yet or not, the parts are getting real hard to find on those E/S mags.....
