1000 rpm PTO was available on 530 630 and 730 tractors. Anyone ever see a tractor wih it?
BTW it's not like on the 3010 4010 or others. If you had a tractor with 540 rpm you just have 540 rpm. If you have a tractor wih 1000 rpm it just 1000 rpm

Seen alot of these tractors and never laid eyes on one with 1000 pto. Have seen a couple of speed changers including that one in moline in the plow company builing. Yes, it is deere. My parts book doesn't even show a 1000 pto installed in those tractors but the cd rom shows a breakdown of the changer and the internal parts for 1000 rpm. Those external types of speed changers are still made buy after market companies but are very expensive.

I tried a couple of years back to find either the box or the gears for my 730D. After calling practically every junkyard in Green Magazine I just gave up. I needed the 1000 shaft speed to run a hydraulic pump for my module builder.

In my 730 operators manual in the specs notes the tractor may have a 540 or 1000 PTO from the factory. I never saw a two cylinder with a 1000 PTO. In another part of the book it shows an external mounted speed changer on the PTO. A gear box slid over the 540 shaft with a 1000 PTO shaft coming out directly behind the 540 shaft and I have seen these. The 4010 and 4020 are a completely different and new design. On the 4010 the front and rear PTO runs at the same speed, which ever speed it is shifted to buy changing the stub PTO on the rear shaft. A 4020 rear speed is also made to be either 540 or 1000 but the front shaft always runs at 1000 rpm regardless of which way you are using the rear.

I was just in Moline at the collector center day after thanksgiving and they had a 630 standard on full steel with just about every option including the 1000 rpm pto it was just another gearbox behind the 540 pto I would assume it was a JD option first one I have ever seen just my .02 cents worth

After March 4, 1959, ALL JD tractors except the 330 and 830 could be ordered with 1000 RPM PTO. Tractors ordered new from the factory were changed internally (new gears and output shaft). Conversion kits were available to do the internal conversion for the Waterloo-built tractors The external speed changers could work either way---convert 540 to 1000 or 1000 to 540, and these units were furnished for both the Waterloo and Dubuque tractors. The external speed changers for the Waterloo tractors are rare, the ones for the Dubuque tractors seem to be non-existent. The internal conversion parts are even more rare.

Is that how they did it? I had a feeling it was by gears inside. So with the gearbox you could take it off and have the 540 rpm.
