I am going back together with my 720 trans,I have reinstalled the reduction gear cover..But when I put the spacer on the end of the shaft and tighten the nut I cannot draw it up enought to get the cotter pin in the castle nut,, Do I need this spacer? [Bearing is in and flush with the out side surface of the gear cover] I can Install the cotter pin without the spacer,,,I was also thinking that I might have the wrong nut [to thick/large] ,,Ben,,

you don't have to take the whole cover off, however you will have to work the bearing out of the case, put the spacer in and then put the bearing back in. There's a snap ring holding bearing in. I've taken needle noze pliers and worked them out.

Ben, that spacer goes on the shaft BEFORE the bearing goes on. The spacer goes between the bearing & 1st reduction gear..

Thanks Clooney. Well it looks like I will have to pull the housing off again,, Clooney you were right,, this transmission is a bugger for someone who has never done a trans job before. Thank you. Ben.
