Has anyone heard of a S series JD? I was told of one the other day. May be a mistake but if not may be worth going to look at. Pup

The 435's were equiped with the "S" series Detroit Diesel. The later "N" series DD is much superior.

Standard.

The "S" was a designation for chassis type, as in 60 Standard, 70 Standard, 620S, 720S, 730S, 630S, 40S,320S 420S,330S,430S, 3010S,4010S, 3020S and 4020S. They had fixed tread, big flared fenders, and a heavy wfe with little or no adjustment. They usually had larger width, but smaller diameter rear tires, earlier ones had 15x30 rear rubber, while later sizes would be 18.4x30. Row crop tractors usually mounted 34 or 38 inch rear rubber in 13.6x38 ,15.5x38, 16.9x34, 16.9x38 and 18.4x34 sizes.

The letter "S" was never used as an actual model designator, only as a suffix designating a variant.

Early in the experimental days of the 5000 Series tractors, they were referred to inside Deere as the "S" tractors. They were even introduced as tractors with "Spirit."

There are 40 series that were built for Europe that had the S designation. (4040S, 4240S ,4440S)They had mechanical front wheel drive. I would stay away from them. Later Bill
