The last time I rebuilt a 420 water pump (20 some years ago)I think there was a ceramic seal next to the impeller. In getting the parts for a rebuild (different tractor) the dealers parts layout and my I&T manual don"t show this ceramic washer looking part. I got the seal, a spring-backed plastic looking material, does this run against the impeller as the layout shows or should I have the ceramic? thanks

Steve, I haven't done a pump on the 420 in a few years myself. The seal has been subbed since the original. If I remember correctly the last one I did had the seal riding directly on the impeller. If you E-Mail Wayne in Tn. [email protected] he might be of more help as he has been doing quite a bit with those Dubuque's lately.

Steve, as Clooney said, it's been awhile since I rebuilt one. However I do have a new kit in my parts bin, with part# AF2057R being subbed to: AT312T so it looks as if you are correct, it rides against the impeller. My kit does not have the ceramic washer either. Good luck! Wayne.
