I got the tires mounted on my wheels today and was able to take my tractor out and run it a little today. I want to get a few hours of running time on it prior to final painting to make sure I don't have any leaks I can fix. Outside temp was low 30's, had the tractor running for about 45 minutes, temp guage never budged off of the 100F lower stop, lower water pipe was cold. The block was warm but you could easily hold your hand on it, the head was hot as well as the upper tank on the radiator. I'm assuming the water is circulating, at least a little, since the upper radiator tank was hot.
Does this seem normal?
I also hooked up my 412 plow, first time I ever had anything on the 3 pt, and brought it into the shop. I wanted to test out the hydraulics, make sure everything works since I had it all apart to fix leaks. Everything seems to work fine, I let the plow in the raised position, I assume it should hold it up overnight, or at least it would when the tractor was new. I'll find out tomorrow when I go back out to the shop.
I posted a picture in the gallery under parts & pieces or something like that.

Bill, that is about normal for a 40 in cold weather. The bottom of the radiator & lower water pipe runs pretty cold until it is put to work in hot weather. On my 40, in cold weather the gage will read the water temperature in the engine but the lower radiator will still run cold.
~You might want to pull the gage bulb from the engine & put it in boiling water to see if it reads 212 or so, if not the gage is bad.....

Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing the water in the block just wasn't warm enough to register on the gauge. The gauge is new but I'll need to pull it to put the dash panel in after I paint so maybe I'll check it out then just to be sure.
