My 49 A seems to eat the plug on the right side. I use champion D-21's and she runs great but I have to change the right one often. I can tell when the right plug goes , because under load she will start bogging down and back-firing,and lose power. Just today had to change the right plug out so I put 2 gaskets (plug washers) on and I will se if that makes a difference. Maybe I should use a different kind ? Thanks-morgan

I had to go to electronic ignition to get rid of this problem. Your problem is quality of unleaded gas and low temperatures, too light of spark. If you have a distributor, delco type go to the electronic. There was article in Green Magazine last month about this, as a matter of fact man had an A.

morgan,

The old right plug problem..... ..My '50 a does the same thing from time to time. It's due to the fact that under light loads, the right cylinder draws less fuel than the left (among other things). If you search the archives on this board, there have been dozens of posts on this same subject (and a lot of spark plug opinions!) What I do is clean up the plug and if it isn't too bad, swap it with the left one.

Good luck,

Terry H

Allot of people, including me, don't like Champions. I have had the best luck with Autolite 386's I use them in my 43B and I will be using them in my 49G once I get it up and running. If I remember right, 386 are best to use in working tractors and 388's in parade tractors. I have had the same plugs in my B for over 1 and a half years. Champions would last one month. Give it a try.

Thanks, I will give it a try!! Today with this plug I changed makes it the 5 th one in about 5 months. all on the right side. I was blading the snow from my drive way today. the old tractor sure runs nice and starts easy and quick. considering we got down to 15 deg. last night and my A was part of my wife's christmas light decoration, so she was out side in the weather(the tractor that is!) I went out side and unpluged her from the lights and hooked up the blade to move some snow around. Thanks again-morgan

My 43B sits out side too. I can start it down to about 10. Anything below it probably won't start. It is a hand start.

Give the plugs a try. You will like :-)
