I'm restoring a '35 D and can't get the clutch linkage to release so I can unbolt it and remove the belt pulley. the engine turns freely by the flywheel but clutch is stuck and needs rebuilt. Any advice on how I should go about disassembling this is much appreciated. Thanks.

John, start by pulling the clutch pulley cover, then removing the 3 adjusting nuts, then pull the adjusting disk & outer disk, then pull the driver disk & the rest of the clutch disks. Once everything is removed from inside the pulley, you will know if the frozen clutch was caused by those parts or it is somewhere else.
~If the hand lever still won't move, disconnect the clutch operating rod from the fork shaft & see if you have movement in the fork shaft. Then remove the fork shaft & fork shaft bearing [rectangle cover held on with 4 bolts] as an assembly from the front of the 1st reduction cover. The pulley should then just pull off.
~ If the fork shaft bearing won't pull off the front , you might have to work with it using some heat & penetrating oil to get the fork shaft to turn far enough to allow the fork to pull from the pulley operating sleeve. The fork [shaft & 4 bolt bearing] must be removed from the front of the 1st reduction cover before the pulley will pull off. The fork shaft won't come out of the 4 bolt bearing until the assembly is removed from the tractor...

Thanks Clooney for your excellent guidance. I removed the pulley to find a broken clutch facing and the linkage/fork problem is the bearing(s) in the fork plate which are soaking now. I'm afraid to get to rough with the housing as it is cast so I'll just let it soak a few days. Would a JD dealer have replacement clutch facings? Guess I'll try em out tomorrow. Thanks, John
