Is the starter ring on the fly wheel reversible so that you can use the other side when wear is on the original side or do you have to replace it.

I have taken the ring gear off and turned it 1/4 turn. You can knock it off with a punch. When you put it on heat to 500 degres to do that put oil on ring gear. Heat evenly when it smokes you will be close.Get it square it shoud go on.

Terry, I have had good luck by just rechampering the teeth in the current position as the reach of the starter gear is about an inch. If you didn't want to pull you can even heat the ring and move it on the wheel. Is a little move trouble and you have to be careful with the torch. However I take a small disc grinder and retouch the teeth in place. will be good for many many more years.

Terry, yes, if you want to re-grind each tooth chamfer to match the factory side. The ring gear teeth are ground at an angle on the starter side so the reverse side must be ground to match if the gear is flipped over. If you grind it to match, it will work fine.
