The 850 you're talking about is a US sold tractor, it is a compact utility tractor made by Yanmar in Japan for Deere. The only thing it shares with the 1020 is the paint color. The on line parts book seems to indicate that the hydraulic oil filter was not used on this tractor if sold in the US or Canada.

If you start my earlier response with the word "IF", which I seem to have left out, it reads better and makes more sense. Apologize for that.

dave,

I'm guessing that the 850 you're talking about is a late 60's, early 70's utility tractor - and is a bit similar to my 1020.

If that's the case, you should be able to slide under the tractor a little bit behind and under where the brake pedals are mounted and find a bolt holding a round piece in a tubular sort of affair. That should be where the hydraulic filter lives.

Those tractors are numbered 820 and 830 built in the late 60's early 70's not to be confused with the two-cylinder's that used the same numbers.

dave,

Between leon and me, there sure is a lot of "iffin" goin' on about this.

If the tractor looks like this one, it's a rice burner Yanmar JD - and my bets are off, and leon probably has the straight skinny.

If it looks like the tractor below, then it's a Mannheim Deere, and is probably fairly closely related to a 1020/2002 Dubuque machine.

IF YOUR 850 HAD A FIELD INSTALLED POWER STEERING KIT , THEN IT WOULD OF USED A JD # RE27284 FILTER. THE 850 WAS INDEED A PRODUCTION OF YANMAR FOR JOHN DEERE, THIS IS APPARENT ON THE ENGINE AS IT IS A THREE CYLINDER YANMAR 1.3L OR 1.7L.
