Has anybody out there changed out a 301 LP in a 4010 with a 329 out of a 4400 combine?

Bolt a 404 diesel out of a 7700 Combine in the 4010.

Leave that tractor alone! Sell the LP to a collector, and you'll probably have enough for a 4020 diesel. There was a 4010 LP row-crop for sale in our paper (I think it was down in Maryland) for $9500. It had a sold sticker over the picture the next week. Anyway, the 329 diesel was not one of John Deere's better engines.

G Taylor's got the right advice. There were only about 4459 LP Rowcrops built, compared to 36,736 diesels. If your 4010 is a STANDARD, then the LP is a RARE tractor---792 LP Standards built.

DON'T butcher it to make it more user friendly (ie:Diesel). There are plenty of collectors who would like to have your tractor, and a diesel 4010 isn't really all that expensive compared to the cost which you'd face trying to switch engines.

The bolt pattern is completely different between the two engines, and the modifications would be crazy. Find a correct engine to put in there, also that lp engine is a better engine compared to a 329 diesel.

Sell the LP to a collector in the north east and purchase a factory built diesel. Cheaper, works better and less agravation. Plus a semi rare LP won't be getting hacked up.

Roger,
As a John Deere mechanic,I would say sell the LP,And come to N.E. Arkansas and find a nice 4020 powershift model,They are pretty easy to find here.
