Mike, there are many different uses for this purpose like dipping in oil etc etc etc just like there are many preferrences of spark plug brands, but Ive personally had good luck using K & W Copper Kote Spray. However, the most important thing is good clean smooth matign surfaces and the correct sequential bolt tightening pattern done SLOWLYYYYY over 10 then 5 pound increments near the end till teh proper final torque is reached, and then a good warm up fOllowed by a retorque. Good Luck, Ol John T Nordhoff in Indiana

Mike, not sure anybody can say what's best, but most of us can say what works best for them. ~Personally I use #3 Prematex on the non factory sealer coated head gaskets. I usually coat the whole gasket [except the fire rings] with a light coat of Permatex & have had very good results with this method. The use of any sealer requires a mandatory re-torque of the cylinder nuts after a few heating & cooling cycles. Probably any of the sealers including the spray sealers will work for most cases & even no sealer will usually work, but the real proof is in how the head gasket holds & is leak free after it is worked at WOT on the governor for hours & hours on end.

most of the time, I use copper coat spray, however with proper torque I would say you don't even need to worry with sealant. Most of the time, coolant will help prevent any leakage.

If it is coated or smooth or tackie, what the gasket mfg inst. Gasket matrial has changed so much. The old gaskets where to soak in oil 30 seconds and drian 5 mins. John Deere on the 2 cly diesels sad to paint the head gaskets with alumimum paint. I also did this when I had to reuse a head gasket.
