I am wondering on 1941 modelA #509913 could this have come with a starter? did the dash always indicate one way or the other. It currently has a ring gear and starter housing..could this have been an option? Where would you put the battery?

Yes the 41A could have a factory electric starter, or just lighting. the battery would be behind the gas tank and in front of the dash. Someone could have put the ring gear flywheel with a starter on the tractor later. and mounted a battery anywhere. Shade tree mechanics were creative with things like this.

I have a 41 B just like this. Some one put on a starter but did not change the dash or the hood. They mounted the battery on a bracket behind the seat on top of the powerlift.

I saw a G once that had the battery between the frame rails just behind the radiator. I have no idea if an A would accomodate one in the same place or not.
