I see a lot of aftermarket companies offering white faced gauges. I need some gauges for my 50. They are originally black gauges on the tractor. Should I go with white faced or black faced gauges? I am not a hard core restorer. If it's fuctional and looks nice then Iam for it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Tye, I have a 50 that we bought new in 1955 it still has all the original gauges whitch are black faced. I do need to replace the temp gauge now (the engine bulb came off when removed from water jacket)after completely refurbishing the complete tractor. EVERY wear part engine and transmission was replaced.

The 50 should definitely have black face gauges and they are all still available from your John Deere dealer. That is how they came from the factory. I have all new black gauges on mine and I think they look sharp.

Tye,

My first thought was that, since the last A and B tractors had black-face gauges, that the 50 should as well. Then I dug out an old brochure on the 50, 60 and 70 and found white-face gauges shown.

Who knows? Joyce Dulin, at Antique Gauges, has really good and Deere licensed gauges in both colors. If you want, I'll send you an e-mail with her address, but I'll need your e-mail address.

Tye, Correct Connection has either color, same price. They also say JOHN DEERE on the face. Deere has them also, in black only, but I think that is correct for the 50.

I have no knowledge of the 50, but I bet if you check with JD, the guages would be black faced and look ok unless you associate with the correct police.
