I have a 4020 JD As I was pulling logs from our woods, I hit a small tree on the edge of the lane with the left front tire. The tire is now rotated at about 15 deg. to the left. I have disconnected the tie rod, removed the tire, and dropped the assembly out of the tube.
The top has a spline on it and the lower end mounts into the hub assembly. Is there a pin that locates the shaft into the hub?
If so how do I disassemble this so I can align it back to where it belongs.

We have disassembled the wheel assembly from the tractor, cleaned and inspected it. There doesn't appear to be any damage, or any crack or visable change in the weld at the bottom of the assembly. Could we have damage at the other end of the tie rods?

What do you think?

the spindle and the wheel shaft are welded together. the spinle was twisted at the accident.
you can compensate for the twist by adjusting the tie rod,but steering geomrtry will be impaired. best thing to do is to replace the spindle.
by the way, the splines at the top of the spindles are over a taper and when removing the arm, there sould be some hammering done

Thanks for the help, seeing that the assembly is welded, can I machine off the weld, realign the spindle, and reweld the shaft? What do you think?

sounds like you have twisted spindle shaft, you can adjust tie rod to align wheels up but ,you need to replace spindle. for safety . Buy a JOHN DEERE spindle they are the best, I have used both JD and el cheapo brand and elcheapo elnogoodo. the price is better but quality is what you want in a spindle.
