I went to maine and bought a JD b attemted to start to find no oil pressure. I pulled the cover off to find the gears were not turning. I went to get the oil pump coupler but the old one is still sticking up there. Any ideas on the best way to get that old one puuled down ?

Tim, are you trying to pull the pump without removing the crankcase cover & pulling the oil lines from the pump? If you pull the crankcase cover you can get at it. You should be able to lower the pump [gear] enough without pulling the lines but the actual pump WON'T come out without removing the lines.

Well I've allready droped the two gears one with a long shaft with a square head on and on the parts breakdown there is a coupler listed witch I have allready purchased but the old one is still sticking up there. The john deere dealer says they usualy break and drop into the crankcase but this is'nt the case with my B it's still up there Thank you for responding

Tim, stick the square end of the gear back in the coupling. If the gear can't be turned the coupling is good, if the gear slips you will have to pull the coupling from the top drive gear & replace it with the new one. Your dealer is correct, when they usually break they fall into the crankcase..

There inlies the problem. I can turn the gear by hand so theoreticly the coupler is bad but it 's still up in place so I need to get it down from there. Thanks so very much for resonding again if I can ever answer any tugboat questions just shoot

Tim, reach up in there with a pair of pliers or better yet a small pair of small nosed vise grips & pull the old coupling off the drive gear.

The hole in witch the shaft goes through is only about 3/8 ths of an inch round and to pull the rest of the pump body there are lines that need to be disconected on top are there not? the shaft on witch the one pump gear is attached is about 8 inches long and goes through this 3/8th inch hole soI think I have to pull this old coupler down through the 3/8th inch hole yes?? I owe you one for continulassly writing back thanks again.

Tim, you will have to pull the crankcase top cover & work through there. The coupling is installed from above the pump through the crankcase cover by dropping the pump gear down a little. You can pull the complete pump by removing the oil lines but shouldn't have to....
