Ok guys, the H I picked up last week has a few things about it I need to find out about. I think I have this figured out but I need to find out for sure. there is a pump handle kind of like a well pump to the left of the gear shift. I know this has to be for hydraulics, now my assumption is that when you move the lever it allows fluid to flow to raise what ever you have on it. Am I right? Also, I know this tractor had cultivators with it at one time, how were they raised as there is nothing on the tractor right now to do any raising? Hope these don't sound like dumb questions but I'm just used to my dads 41 model B. One other thing right quick, does anyone have a pic of the the starter mounted on one of these H's? I know it had a generator on it at one time, there is whats left of a volt. regulator and a rear work lamp still on it but thats all I know. Thanks!
Gary

The "pump handle" you refer to is indeed the hydraulic valve control lever. The rectangular object to the left of the governor housing is the hydraulic pump-valve-reservoir unit. It controlled a remote one-way cylinder that actually raised and lowered implements through various linkages. The cultivators were raised and lowered via horizontal shaft, controlled by this cylinder, that passed behind and below the seat platform in its own brackets. It is very similar to the arrangement of the cultivator on the B you are familiar with, except there is no rockshaft connection for lifting/lowering the gangs.
The starter was mounted in its own bracket that bolts to the main case. It was contolled by a foot lever that operated a switch mounted directly on the starter. Sorry, I don't have a picture. Hope this helps,
Paul

Thanks Paul, I appreciate the info! I hope to get this old girl up and running again. Wish me luck! There is several parts missing(carb., mag., and some clutch parts anda couple covers on the trans case. Brakes are stuck on it as well, thought at first the trans. was froze but it will roll backwards and after sitting out for a long long time the engine is NOT STUCK! That I couldn't believe? I think there is hope for her and I'm going to do my best. I also picked up a Farmall B as well when I got this one. My grandpaw had one and I have always wanted one, now to find a parts tractor or 2 for both of them? The search goes on!
Thanks,
Gary
