Help,I have a JD401B w/shuttle,loader and 3 pt. It is as strong as a bull in low range, but, when you shift to high 6,7 or8th gear it just sits there and won't move. It dosen't seem to matter if its hot or cold. Sometimes if I let it idle,it will shudder then jump in gear. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?Thank you for any responces. Ron N.J.

Put it in 4th forward and stand on the brakes.. then with the hand throttle revved up, release the clutch. See if it stalls the engine or sits there like it has a torque converter ! Then , if it just sits there and doesn't stall the engine, try the same procedure in reverse. If it stalls in reverse, but not in forward i would guess that the sealing rings in the front clutch pack in the reverser are worn . This is a common thing with this and similar machines. have to split the machine to repair. If it doesn't stall the engine in reverse, then there is a low pressure problem in the reverser. That can usually be repaired by a clutch pedal linkage adjustment. let me know the results and I'll type some more.... If the machine doesnt have the high range lockout for reverse, then try this test in 5th or 6th....the symptoms will show better.
