Howdy thinking of getting a little newer than the jd 50 for a hobby farm tractor--sometimes i need more power. Around here there is a big price difference between gas and diesel on the above tractors, gas being cheaper. Are they really that hard on fuel? Would anyone have any idea of gallons per hour on above tractors? Also why are some people afraid of 3010 as opposed to 3020, were there any problem areas to watch for? For comparison I would figure my 50 eats about 2 to 3 gallons per hr depending on the job, and yes I know its only about half the power of above mentioned tractos, when I get stuck my favorite tractor to borrow fromn the nieghbor to pull me out is his little tractor the 2520 diesel. Thanks in advance for any info!

The 2510 have never used, but I own a 4020 gas and a very good friend has a 3020 gas. I have also used 3020, and 4020 diesels. From what I have experienced the 3020 gas tends to use more feul than the 3020 diesels. In fact my friends 3020 gas uses as much, or more gas than my 4020 gas. Raking hay, and doing light work that you can do at lower RPM's you can expect to use between 2.5 to 3 gallons an hour. Baling hay or anything at PTO speed, where the gov. kicks in alot you will use 4 gallons an hour. That actually isn't much more than a 4020 Diesel. I've never done tillage with my 4020 Gas, and I can't imagine what it would be like wide open lugging constantly, but then again that's not what I bought it for. If it were me and I realy wanted a 3020, I'd try to find a diesel. If I felt I had to get a gas, I'd go ahead and get a 4020. You won't use hardly any more gas, if any, and you will have more power, and virtually the same mobility, and the extra power will allow you to go up a gear in certain situations, and run at lower RPM's, for the same ground speed, there by lowering your gas consumption. Good Luck finding your tractor, Greg H.
