One difference would be the grill/hood. If it's an early 40 model, it'll have one grill screen across the front whereas the 320's and the later model 40's will have split screens. There is also a difference in the drawbars between the early 40U and the 320U.

We've got a 320U and an early model 40U and sitting them side by side there is no difference in the two machines, except for the grill screen, paint job and drawbar.

If the 320 your looking at has split screens in the hood with no tag, it could be either. Unless there's something I've missed.

Mark, that is a good question, I also would like to hear some replys. One thing, having no tag hurts the value bad, especially if you ever wanted to resell to a serious collector. Even if you get a replacement tag, they look like @#$*% and are nothing like the original.

320`s have a number stamped on the motor, they are on the block flange that mounts the hyd. pump and generator. You can use that number to find the serial number if the block hasn`t been changed. The collector center can try to match the motor number to a serial number.
